Generation Gap or Just a Time Warp?
The hosts of the podcast “Gen 2 Gen” discovered they have more pop culture nostalgia in common than expected across the generation divide. In their latest time machine episode, rising Gen Z filmmaker Teondra and Millennial podcaster Phil bridged gaps and bonded over iconic blasts from the past.
Gen Z Gets Schooled on 80s-90s Classics
While debating the best teen movies, Phil uncovered some major gaps in Teondra’s 1980s cinematic knowledge. “You didn’t know Breakfast Club? That came out in 85,” he reacted in shock. But they found common ground jamming to 90s hits like TLC’s “No Scrubs” and watching reruns of Sister, Sister. “We used to try and fight like the Power Rangers,” laughed Teondra of the classic 90s show.
Millennials vs Song Lyrics
When it came to testing Phil’s grasp of modern rap hits and artists though, the tables turned. “It’s like a mumble rap flood up there,” joked producer Dean as Lil Yachty and NBA YoungBoy songs stumped Phil. “I’m 10 years older than you!” he pleaded to a giggling Teondra.
Verdict: Their Nostalgia Overlaps More Than Expected!
While Phil aced quiz questions about 80s staples like The Breakfast Club and Michael Jackson for Teondra, she shocked him in return with her Seinfeld knowledge. “See I thought that was just a millennial thing!” Ultimately they decided nostalgia from these eras permeates culture more than most millennials or gen Z’ers admit.
